Like an influencer, I disappeared for the summer. Spending some time abroad made me grateful for my ability to pack a suitcase. I’m not sure where this talent originated from, since I spent the first 6 or 7 years of my life having my mommy pack it for me, but her fear of paying for a checked bag has certainly kept me in check when packing.
Since everyone except for me is a classic over-packer, I have some questions to ask yourself before your next flight/suitcase opportunity.
- Do you really need more than five outfits? You can probably mix and match them into a bunch of different combinations. Or, if you’re like me and you wear the same five things every day, those other items are just going to be taking up space. Be honest, you won’t wear them.
- Why would you bring another pair of shoes when you can put up to six more books in your bag? Obviously, you already have two or three books that you won’t end up reading, but this will help put even more pressure on yourself to do something productive during a time of relaxation and fun.
- Should you really bring twice as many pairs of underwear as days of travel? Are you really gonna shit yourself once a day? Yes. The answer is yes. 50% of your bag should be underwear.
Using these simple guidelines, you’ll never have to pay for your suitcase again; unless they try to weigh it and it’s 15 pounds heavier than it’s supposed to be—EVEN THOUGH it was an overhead bag—and now the flight attendant is making you pay $160 to his iPad that may or may not even be affiliated with the airline and one last thing and then I swear to god I’ll shut up about this forever, but you should’ve just paid for them to check your bag in the first place.
