Can I even talk about the news or just news in general without it getting controversial? I don’t consume any real news which is questionable behavior already, but don’t worry, I won’t make this a regurgitation of Instagram infographics circa 2019. Despite getting bombarded with emails from the New York Times and the New Yorker every day with headlines like “It’s a delusion to think having a gun in the home makes us feel safer,” I won’t go any further than that sentence. Plus, by that time Twitter would have already let me know in a more digestible and accessible way.

Does Twitter count as news? It surely likes to get political, but I mostly use it as a source of celebrity goings-on. I have fun indulging in and consuming their dramas if not to participate in discussions with my friends, then to laugh out loud by myself. This fascination started with a TikTok-exposé reporter on YouTube, Anna Oop. She traces the history of viral “content creators’” lives and allows people like me who don’t use TikTok to understand the petty arguments between D-list (more like Z-list) teenagers and twenty-somethings. The search for this kind of information expanded my Twitter feed from just memes to the personal lives of A and B-listers. It’s just as entertaining as their acting/music/whatever—sometimes more so. Now one last thing and then I swear to god I’ll shut up about this forever, the best part of knowing these dramas is that it has given me a deeper appreciation for my favorite show, Bojack Horseman; but you don’t even need to know any celebrities to enjoy its brilliant writing and critique of the Hollywood/LA culture of famouses.
